Description

Author story about the species

Oncidium neozlianum (also known as Cochlioda noezliana) has startling bright red flowers, and grows in the high Andes of Northern Peru in the cooler cloud (montane) forests 2000 – 3200 m elev. The plant has perfectly co-evolved with hummingbirds for pollination with the petals held back to allow the hummingbird wings to hover over the flower cascade and sip the nectar (and insects) from the flowers, that guide the beak with a yellow sided groove.
